P.S. The best ways to avoid being scammed by "runners" is to:
1. Don't "run" - do it yourself the old fashioned way.
2. Get a Guild mate or trusted friend to run you.
3. Check the buy/sell forums and/or Guru Auctions for a runner. Chances are (esp on the auctions) that someone who bothers to post running services and has a good rep, will be less likely to cheat you.

well, Stop The Storm, i guess one would have to define the social norms, culture, customs, etc. and in a multicultural state, one would have to take into account all, not just one culture.

You see, Stop The Storm, in islam, for example, if a woman gets raped, then yes, the blame is on her but ONLY IF she did not follow customary guidelines set forth on women (e.g. must not walk unescorted, must not wear revealing clothes, must lower her gaze upon presence of the male, etc). this 'rule' is universally applied to all women whether or not they are muslim because in islam, only their way is deemed lawful and just and appropriate.

so if a nonmuslim woman gets raped by muslim men in a nonmuslim country, local non islamic laws would protect that woman and punish the men accordingly no doubt........, but within the eyes of the neighboring muslim state, that woman IS at fault and those men were wrongfully accused in a less-than-perfect (ie nonmuslim) legal system.

all that which i state here can be backed by the islamic scriptures: quran, hadith and sunnah.

UPDATE: It seems that swift justice is at hand!!! I just got an email back from Support. All of this with 3 days. I removed my name and the GM's name just for privacy reasons.

i would go into my views on islam but i wont :P

all im saying is, people are way too harsh on the people who got scammed. Bit of sympathy perhaps or just not reply at all.

I did learn... ANET's GOT OUR BACK!!! Plus, i also learned that people don;t listen when you tell them you are taking screen shots and will report.

i fully expected to not get my gold back. but that;s ok. its a good lesson learned

As already stated, the game already provides you with what is needed to prevent being scammed. Trades notify you of any changes, and it asks you to verify before making the trade. If you can't be diligent enough to check, it was your own fault.

For runs, which you are paying for a service, not an item, then it is common sense. Buyers and runners both are susceptible to scamming here, so a median is required. Most runners ask for partial payment part way through, and still see people refuse to pay. If you are asked to pay for the full thing in advance, don't go. If you are asked to pay ALL of it at the partway spot, pay at your own risk. But running is not playing, and I dont' see any reason for Anet to take part in those situations. I have been scammed on a run, from both ends. I do not see it as something Anet SHOULD deal with, but that is my opinion.
